I recently purchased an HP Color Laserjet 2550L from Amazon for $299.99. On a lark, I tried out "RefundPlease.com", a website which watches items you purchased for price changes, and lets you know when prices drop. Since the LJ2550L was a closeout item, I thought it likely that it would drop in price. Today I received this e-mail:
Congratulations!
We checked today (Wednesday 11th of January 2006 01:40:59 AM) and found
that...
Your item's price has dropped!!!
Amazon Item: B0007KNIUW
Original Price: 299.99
Current Advertised Price: 249.99
To claim your credit:

- Provide your order number (from your email receipt).
- In the Comments box, write that the price of your item has dropped
within
the last thirty days and that you would like a credit.

number and the original price, and the current price

- Click the "Send e-mail" button.
- Wait for your credit! Amazon.com will review your request and then
send
you an email and give you a credit!
Please keep in mind that the credit you receive is a courtesy and
that
even a simple 'thank you' will be appreciated by Amazon.com.
Thanks for using RefundPlease.com! Happy Shopping!
Drop us a note and tell us how it turns out! Comments@RefundPlease.com
*Note that, we are only going by information you provided at the time the
tracking
started. So, if there were any errors in the date/price/product ID,
you may not be
entitled to a credit. Clicking on the item link above you
should be able to verify
the price drop before claiming your credit.
**Note that, we are only going by information provided by Amazon.com and
that some
prices may be for third party providers who provide 'New' products
at prices less
than Amazon.com. Unfortunately, we cannot tell when this is
the case. So, it is
important that you verify the price.
***Note that, we are only going by information provided by Amazon.com and
that some
prices vary up and down over the course of a few hours. So, even
though the price
you see when verifying the price drop may NOT be lower than
your purchase price,
our price check may have captured a price at a moment
when it was lower and the price
has subsequently risen back to your purchase
price.
****Note that, if the amount of a credit is not reasonably valuable to
you, you may
choose to wait for a potentially higher credit in the future.
We do not recommend
claiming credits less than a $1.00, or more, maybe $5.00
or so, but you are free
to request as you choose, of course.
So I followed the directions and asked for the refund. Here's what I received back from Amazon:
Thank you for writing to Amazon.com.
The discounts we offer for items on our web site do vary from time to time. I've checked your order, and found that we now offer a greater discount on "Remanufactured HP Color LaserJet 2550L Printer"
than at the time you placed your order.
Since this item was shipped so recently, I have requested a refund of $50.00 to your credit card. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were charged and the discounted price. The refund should be processed in the next few days and will appear as a credit on your next billing statement.
You may view returns and refunds by clicking the "Your Account" link at the top of our web site, then clicking "Go!" next to "open and recently shipped orders." Completed refunds will appear at the bottom of an individual order's summary page.
I hope this solution is satisfactory. Thank you for shopping at Amazon.com--we hope you will visit us again soon.
So thanks, refundplease.com. I appreciate the $50.
